I used to get Sales guys who'd say "The price is higher than the competitor's". So I'd say, "If you're selling on lowest price, why are we paying you? I could walk in and say 'this costs less'; sell the value."

it's like product guys that say "Look at all these features." No, a customer doesn't buy a feature. He *might* buy a benefit

Yes, posterous would work for this. Bit harder to keep private though... I use delicious (which I feed into Friendfeed, thence Twitter...)

Thanks, Thomas – as usual, I was late to the party! Like you, I prefer actype to Disqus – and think Gravatar highly necessary!

The other thing that I’d suggest is set up your own Disqus profile (for blogs that use Disqus), register for BackType – and for goodness sake get a Gravatar!

All of these will either help track coments you make, or – in the case of Gravatar – personalise your comments with your chosen image.

Excellent post David. I love the fact that with many people's Twitter accounts their real-life persona bleeds through. Like you, I think it helps forge deeper connections.

If all they want is a "business level" connection, perhaps LinkedIn would make folk happier. I hope to know a bit more about folk I interact with.

Yeah, I have loads of theoretical OpenIDs - but in the end went with a selfhosted wp.org plugin...

A very poor choice of things to do, in my view. I think what made it worse was the sleazy wriggling when he'd been skewered in the comments about the paper's privacy policy and statement about IP addresses. He's demeaned himself, and the organisation he writes for.

yeah, and adding *more* channels just dilutes the message.

I *love* working for this company. Well, for stuff like this!

There are other features, too. I like the ability to integrate things like ClickDial - where using CTI-like features you can find a name, and... click the button to speak to the individual

I don't have an issue; I'll only be seeing "ads" from those I choose to follow. If they become spammers - they'll get unfollowed.

Follow the link because you're interested and it's pretty obvious it's an affiliate when you hit Amazon - and I can choose to buy or not...

I love the sort of comment "We need to involve everyone in this project. What? Why would we want to talk to employee comms?"I always use to talk to our employee comms people about what sort of message we had; who it was aimed at; any call to action, timescales etc. I then used to *ask* for advice as to how to do things. As ever, senior managers have their own lonely furrow to plough. I have sometimes felt like asking if they'd like to be the poor ox pulling the heavy plough, that's so ineptly directed...

I’ve tried to tackle the more than 140 character problem by using posterous – mini blogging by email rather than microblogging (see http://mini.softwareas.com/ which was the inspiration for http://mini.steveellwood.com/).

Nice new design, by the way!
