Zach, you are giving me too much credit here (regarding the title). I
hope other attributes of the site meet your standards as well! :-)

Michael, I understand your pain exactly. Not too long ago, we were
looking to replace my wife's cellphone, and she wanted something light
and cheap. But going into Cingular/AT&T and looking at "not iPhones"
was very dull. How does one select the best of the also-rans?

Svartling, the question is... if stranded on an island with amazing
WiFi and limitless electrical power, what would you rather take with
you? The iPhone or the laptop? I'd bet the laptop would win. :-)

Jesse, to be honest, my wife has been bugging me to get a family-
oriented blog up where we could both blog for some time. Given the
slant of louisgray.com, this isn't the place for baby pics and updates
and family updates all that much, so we finally sat down and got a
domain that makes sense for both of us and are in the process of
setting up now. When she gets going, I'll highlight it.

FriendFeed and Twitter are not competitors, except when it comes to
having a platform to provide updates and engage with peers. Twitter,
to FriendFeed, is just one stream of updates, like every other service
they support. Twitter has the benefit of a large user base, and a lot
of 3rd party apps, and FriendFeed is catching up on both counts (at
least on a percentage basis).

I always hoped Apple TV would expand such that Netflix was no longer
needed, but apple continues to treat it as a hobby. But this most
recent experience with Amazon and TiVo makes it clear to me why I went
the Apple route, because I trust the show's quality. I've never had a
problem, ever. If it wasn't for the $.99 promo, I would have likely
continued to ignore the Amazon/TiVo combo.

Michael, you will be a happy iPhone owner. When I first tried out the
iPhone in the Apple store, I was worried my thumbs were too fat for
the keyboard, but after a day or so, I was typing nearly as fast as on
my BlackBerry. Combined with its automatic spelling corrections and it
works great. Just say No to "No"kia.

Owning the content and comments is a big issue for many authors, but
not every author. What you're seeing is a metamorphosis between the
old way of having siloed content and the new way of knowing the data
can flow anywhere. The tricky part is knowing where it's going and
determining whether to participate.

We tried Get Smart yesterday night to see if it was as bad as Crystal
Skull was, and it had the same jitteriness at the beginning, but it
was much better, clearing up after the first quarter of the movie.
That said, both movies were junk. :-)

One of the biggest problems of open source is exactly what it tries to
fight against - profits and centralization. Twitter has a strong
leadership position that enables them to keep their network closed.
What's most frustrating to Jesse and others, I would guess, is how
they make small steps toward improving the product and developer
relations and then do a complete 180 and go the other way. Why lead on
its most supportive partners and then pull the rug out?

Banane, there's no question the amount of code needed to perform the
script is not overwhelming. But Chris made the process fun and easy to
use, which at times trumps difficulty. :-)

There were issues with the iPhone 2.01 update, if I remember
correctly. I had to restore from backup more than once, but it's been
pretty much rock solid, as you describe, since then. I stuck with
BlackBerry for about 4-5 years, and graduated with them from device to
device, but I don't miss it at all. The iPhone offers so much more,
without compromising, especially when it comes to the Web experience.
Synching with Safari is perfect for me, and with each new app, its
lead gets larger.

Appreciate your intelligent and thoughtful response.

Kipp, I've been thinking about it for awhile. Being in the Silicon
Valley and literally 5-10 minutes from Apple HQ, we have a high iPhone
per person capita. But when I see people take out a BlackBerry or
Windows Mobile/Symbian cell phone, I almost feel sorry for them,
because they must know they're missing out. I really put off getting
an iPhone, but now I see that was stupid, and I should have just
gotten one right away (assuming Exchange integration).

Interestingly, this was the first time I had ever heard of him. Not from Twitter or any other network or from his press release, but from your article. There is room for explaining these tools, but there’s a right way and then there is this way.
