Reply | Original | Permalink | Share | TweetThanks Chris, I appreciate you taking the time to comment on here and also thanks for validating my reasoning. Sometimes I second guess myself on whether I'm on the side of self promotion or just spamming the internet with my face.
Reply | Original | Permalink | Share | TweetThanks for the comment. I agree there are so many things companies could do if they want to. Social media encompasses hundreds of tools and it would be nice to see companies start utilizing them more.

awesome ideas there. love the csi episode where someone hacks into a twitter account, then people can follow csi on twitter to see what those hacked messages were :)
so many creative things that companies can do!
thanks for the response
Reply | Original | Permalink | Share | TweetI see no problem with adding your own content to social bookmarking sites. It makes it easier for you to organize what you publish, and, as someone else mentioned, if other people like what you're writing they may want to save it in their own bookmark collections.
Reply | Original | Permalink | Share | TweetHa! i found your blog. Now I can blog stalk you. I have one but it is mostly about my family. I throw in a political rant now and then, especially the prop 8 thing. Man that pissed me off. Anyway, I'll make doug read your blog too, I like it!
Reply | Original | Permalink | Share | TweetI use bookmarks to keep track of great information I come across and specific things I might want to reference later. Using Google the search for that doesn't always mean I will find the article I was thinking of and takes longer. I like having a repository for stuff I deem useful information.
Reply | Original | Permalink | Share | TweetI don't need any bookmarks really, I think the concept of bookmarks are kind of a dated metaphor for the early days of web browsing. Sort of a holdover from Gopher where you just had lists of websites. I rely more on Google if I need to look up something. reddit.com (especially the programming subreddit) does all the work of bookmarking interesting sites for me, all I need to do is search or browse their site.
Reply | Original | Permalink | Share | TweetI say go for it!
There is nothing wrong with being a fan of your own work. On your blog you say things that you wanted to be said, so you should be proud to bookmark it.
Besides, If someone is interested in the things that you bookmarked, they should have an endless supply of links to your site!
Reply | Original | Permalink | Share | TweetAmber you're welcome and thanks again for all the great information you push out. I added you to my Delicious network and really enjoyed your latest eBook.
(Hmm, I thought I had already posted this comment, but it doesn't seem to be here. Let's hope it stays this time)
Reply | Original | Permalink | Share | TweetYou're welcome and I'm glad to hear you guys are already working on that. I'd definitely give you and your team an A+ for being on top of it. Thanks for the comment and for trying out/listening to my suggestions. I appreciate it.

This is a fantastic tip. I just tried it out and it works great. We are working on an authenticated RSS feed ourselves, but MailOnFeed is a great service for our users to try out immediately. Thanks for the suggestions and continued support!

Thanks so much for the shoutout. Participating in social media is the whole point, in my view. If you can't make time to be part of the community, don't expect it to do much on your behalf. Plus, all the people you mentioned (including me) share because they really believe it's the right thing do to, and they enjoy doing it. I for one am so grateful for a community that's not only engaged with me, but that allows me to be engaged with THEM.
Thanks again. :)

Reply | Original | Permalink | Share | TweetLouis, commenting does indeed take a backseat when I get busy as well, I know it's hard to "keep up", but I still appreciate the good info I get from you and your blog.
Janet, thanks for commenting! I know the feeling of reader overload, when I cam back from my Honeymoon a couple weeks ago I had over 1,000 unread articles and I still have about 350 from then on top of all my other in coming. It cam be stressful at times to keep up with the info you want.
Thank you both for taking the time to leave a comment on here.
Reply | Original | Permalink | Share | TweetI spend a lot of time devouring all the info on my feeds and I've noticed that I'm doing a lot less commenting because of that. It's more work to comment from a feed reader. I share a lot of links, but comments not so much.
Thanks for the post, I'll try harder to be less of a tagger!
Reply | Original | Permalink | Share | TweetI wish I was engaging more by commenting on blogs as much as I once did. Now, I'm spending a lot more time reading feeds, sharing items, conversing on FriendFeed, and juggling twins, not to mention actually finding time to blog myself. So yes, my contributions in this space have decreased.

Reply | Original | Permalink | Share | TweetThanks for the update Keith, glad to hear that the 1to1 is coming, and I do see the option for special pricing in there. I must have missed that on my last run through, Thanks for pointing it out.

Thank you for mentioning Yammer and noticing that we recently added a highly requested Groups feature. We wanted to clarify one point though. We do offer special pricing for large networks. If you go to our 'Claim Your Network' page you will see that you can request this special pricing by emailing sales@yammer-inc.com
Once again, thanks for the mention and stay tuned for 1 to 1 private messages coming really soon!
Thank you,
Keith
The Yammer Team

Thank you for the great write up and feedback on NutshellMail. We have worked really hard to bring the service to market and we really appreciate your recognition. We have big plans to expand the NutshellMail platform to include additional social networking accounts and other personal info, such as weather, stock quotes, news stories, etc. We are also working on mobile applications, browser and email client plugins, and an enhanced service for parents who want to monitor their young children's messaging accounts.
Your suggestion to add specialized alerts for specific senders is fantastic and is now on our feature backlog. Thank you for your feedback and support!

Reply | Original | Permalink | Share | TweetJust hold down on the link in the browser and a popup will appear from which you can copy the URL. If you are already on the page you want to link to, just click MENU, then Go to URL, hold down on the address bar and choose copy.
Reply | Original | Permalink | Share | TweetThis is a great post and hope these companies get a chance to read it so that they can change their ways. Its good to see Plaxo has limited their emails; they used to be the most spammy service I have ever used. I would love to see a similiar post covering services that are used by spammers. For example, i get tons of spammy advertisements through Bebo, MySpace and Skype.
Reply | Original | Permalink | Share | TweetGlad I could provide that info. When I get back from San Diego and break it all down I think that will help as well, then we can gauge the frequency of certain type of email generated by these sites.
